School history: Provided by the RCF
First school in the village of Mohall from 1902-1904, was located about four blocks Northeast of the Catholic Church. In 1903, Baska & Sons moved the building to an area what is known now as Moberg Insurance and Haugan Apts. Later it was moved one block East, which is now the George Solar residence, 103 - 1st. Ave. SE. In 1904 the community school had grades 1 - 8. It was a four-room school with a heating stove in each classroom. The building was constructed for a cost of $4,000.00. In 1909 a supplement to the four-room building was built to house the 1-2 graders until 1912. In 1912 a brick school building was built with the student capacity of 350. Ed Stromswold was the contractor of the four-story building at the cost of $50,000. The brick building had separate rooms for high school, and four rooms for grades. The building was used until 1959 when it was torn down to make room for the new school addition. A new Health and Physical Education facility was added to the Mohall School and dedicated May 17, 1970. On Tues., June 27, 1987, a roast was held for Supt. Donald Kolbo, who had served the Mohall School for 37 years. At that time the new Health and Physical Education facility was named in his honor. The name idea was proposed to the Mohall School Board by Keith Purdy, an MHS alumnus.
